In 1809, Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire, and the ruble was declared the national currency in Finland. On April 4th 1860, by a decree issued by Alexander II, Emperor of Russia, Finland adopted a currency of its own, the markka. The same year a mint was founded in Finland to mint Finnish coins. In October 1864, the new mint, built on the Katajanokka peninsula in Helsinki minted its first silver markka pieces.

Allmost all coins are normally delivered with official boxes and certificates in case those exist. Those are not always shown in the photograph. In case of questions please contact us.
